The vocals are all over the place, the guitars are usually out of tune, there are notes dropped during solos, and yet I absolutely love it.
Ok so not exactly new, as such, having formed in 2001, but still relatively unheard, and I can't understand why... With the exception of a handful of E.Ps their first release was an album by the name of 'The Strange Boys and Girls Club' – March 2009. This, as a debut album, is almost as good as they come, yet also startlingly bad.
I think it is the amalgamation of poor musicianship, coupled with beautifully simple songs, that gives it the dirty, uneasy feeling that I cannot get enough of. The album drifts seamlessly from track to track, using a range of obvious influences, such as Chuck Berry, Dylan, The Sonics, Johnny Cash, to name a few.
I cannot wait for the release of their new album 'Be Brave' due in February, and only hope that they've not bothered to polish their vocals, guitars, drums, or production, and keep it to this simple format. Too many of my favourite bands have fallen down this trap in their later albums, and as a result have lost my interest; if it aint broke, don't fix it!
