Toro Y Moi

Mathew Mayes Filed Under: Labels: ,
With all the crossover and experimental hype around last year, it was hard to filter out the good from the bad, and the bad from the downright wierd. Acts like the Animal Collective proved you don't need to box your sound to be understood. Yet still, the pigeon holer's still tried their best to define the lo-fi acts emerge last summer as 'chillwave'. Somehow in all the hype, many missed South Carolina's Toro Y Moi.

The one-man-band that is 23 year old Chaz Bundick, creates a hazy summer sound that flirts with electronica, disco and indie-pop, to create something unique, warm and bright, with a worn-in, fuzzy familiarity. Think MGMT meets the Flaming Lips and your somewhere close. This guy is that versatile. His remixes aren't half bad either.

Currently touring Spain and the US, the fantastic debut album 'Causers of This' is out now, whilst Chaz promises a second album later this year. I'm salivating at the thought...

Buy it, we need to support people as talented as this.
