Saturday, October 16th marked a sad day in Hip Hop. Micheal Larsen, better known as Eyedea from the MC, producer partnership; Eyedea and Abilities (previously known as Sixth Sense) passed away at the age of 28.

Larsen was originally a battle MC in the late 1990's before signing to Rhymesayers records and touring with Atmosphere, acting as their second MC and DJ. 2001- 2009 saw a prolific work ethic produce six albums. Three with partner and friend DJ Abilities, a solo project under the alias; 'Oliver Hart' and two more experimental releases, one being live jazz (Face Candy) and the other, alternative rock (Carbon Carousel).

Larsen was a born story teller. His lyrics showed a great deal of deep thought and insight, often following a deliberatly constructed narrative. Philosophical, engaging and witty, he will be sorely missed.

The video below was created by Rhymesayers Entertainment, it features footage taken from their remembrance concert held on November 9th, celebrating the life of Mikey 'Eyedea' Larsen. The accompanying song is 'Here For You', taken from Larsen's solo album; 'The Many Faces Of Oliver Heart'.

The achievements attained by Larsen were quite extraordinary for someone who passed so young. The time line below aims to portrait this.

1999 - prize winner at Scribble Jam '99
2000 - prize winner at Rock Steady Anniversary 2000
2000 - prize winner at Blaze Battle New York (televised on HBO)
2001 - released 'First Born' (Eyedea and Abilities)
2002 - released 'The Many Faces Of Oliver Heart' (Oliver Heart)
2004 - released 'E&A' (Eyedea and Abilities)
2006 - released 'This Is Where We Were' (Face Candy)
2007 - released 'The Some Of All Things or: The Healing Power Of Scab Picking' (Carbon Carousel)
2009 - released 'By The Throat' (Eyedea and Abilities)
